Citing "steady growth," Tennessee Cheesecake Inc. has announced plans to move from Mt. Juliet to Lebanon's Novamet Tech Center, formerly home to Toshiba.

The new building is four times the size of Tennessee Cheesecake's current facility and will be used for manufacturing, warehousing and distribution operations to serve customers throughout the country. The company, which currently employs more than 30 people, expects to add at least 15 full-time employees over the next two years.

"When Tennessee Cheesecake moved to Wilson County in 2010, we recognized the opportunity to work with the owners and create a win-win for their growing business and Wilson County," Tammy Stokes, assistant director of the Wilson County Joint Economic & Community Development Board (JECDB), said. "We're so pleased they have chosen to continue doing business here in Wilson County."

The 34-year-old business, started in the kitchen of owner and President Valerie Byrd, sells gourmet cheesecakes, Southern-inspired pies and other custom desserts via distributors and brokers to restaurants and other institutions. Officials plan to begin operations in the new location by the end of the third quarter 2015.

"This new space will support our growth and allow us to continue to provide excellent service and delicious desserts to our customers," Byrd said. "The opportunity to relocate to a building that not only meets our space and facility requirements, but is also a thriving industrial hub strategically located for efficient distribution, makes this the ideal solution for us."

According to principals of the company, the announcement marks Tennessee Cheesecake's third building move and expansion in 11 years. In 2004, the company moved from a home-based business in Green Hills to a 2,000-square-foot bakery in Nashville's Sylvan Park neighborhood. In 2010, the bakery expanded again, moving to a 10,000-square-foot space in Mt. Juliet.

Though the wholesale industry is the company's core customer base, individual retail business has steadily increased. In May, the company transitioned to an Internet-only storefront at www.TennesseeCheesecake.com, shipping desserts to individual customers locally and throughout the United States.

The bakery will join several other manufacturers that have relocated to the Novamet Tech Center, which is anchored by Novamet Specialty Products Corp. and is also home to Music City Logistics, Drive Time and Carvana. The facility is located on 97 acres and contains some 500,000 square feet, 40,000 of which will be used by Tennessee Cheesecake.

Locally, Tennessee Cheesecake is available at the Nashville Cash & Carry, a wholesale retail supplier of premium food and party supplies, located at 51st and Charlotte avenues in Nashville.

The company also anticipates the announcement of a major new retail partner in the next six months.
